Kirin 990 5G :: Huawei launched the Mate 30 series processor.

What you need to know: -
* Huawei announced the processor that will run the series Mate 30 flagship phones.

* Featuring 10.3 billion transistors, 2.3 Gbps download speed, and 16-core GPU, among other upgrades.

* We'll see it first in Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro, which starts on September 19.
As usual before the launch of the new Mate phone, Huawei today unveiled the chipset that will run the next major series. If the technical specifications of the new Kirin 990 and 990 5G processors are any indication, the new phones will present a big bump in AI and 5G performance and the graphic and graphic performance on Kirin 980 used in phones such as the P30 series.

The Kirin 990 series is based on 7nm FinFet UEV technology to improve energy efficiency during the current 980. The CPU is an octa-core correlation, with two large (high-performance) Cortex A76 cores, two medium-performance A76 cores, and four low-power A55 cores. At the same time, Huawei's focus on artificial intelligence continues in the new chipset, with the massive new NPU (Neural Processing Unit) configuration. For improved graphics, the 990 uses a 16-core ARM Mali G76 GPU - higher than the previous-generation 10-core G76.

Huawei continues to build its smart capabilities in the new chip, with a new NPU configuration that allows efficiency gains and higher performance. In the end, Huawei says it expects to double the power of the number of AI that existing chips such as Snapdragon 855 and Kirin 980 enjoy from its new flagship site.

Machine learning is also leveraged in the inbuilt 5G modem, whose presence allows Huawei to claim the 990 5G as the “first flagship 5G processor”. In addition to impressive data speeds, the company says that by applying the capabilities of the AI chip to modem power consumption, it can connect a 5G connection with a “4G-like” power draw. When it comes to data productivity, the 5G version of the chip is rated for speeds up to 2.3 Gbps and 1.25 Gbps up.
While both 4G and 5G versions are very similar, it should be noted that there are differences in performance between the two. The 5G variant has slightly higher clock speeds in its CPU and boasts a second "big" NPU core.

Photography and video also received special attention in both options Kirin 990, especially when it comes to noise reduction. The new 5th generation ISP (Image Signal Processor) supports BM3D (block-matching and 3D filtering) to improve noise reduction in shots - a feature Huawei says puts noise reduction on par with more expensive DSLR cameras. To improve video clarity, the new ISP also supports dual-field noise reduction.

It's probably a good match for the big image sensors we expect to see in the Mate 30 series when they land in a few weeks. Current rumors point to a massive 40-megapixel sensor and 1 / 1.55 inches of the phone's main camera.

Huawei Kirin 990 and 990 5G will debut in the Mate 30 series, which is scheduled to be unveiled at an event in Munich, Germany on September 19. Android Central will be live from the site to give you full live coverage.
